Session Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2026
Players: Llerg, Rodger
1 Haelhold
Location: Lankshorn
Rumors:
Folks aren’t happy with Malbleat, the longhorn ruler (heard on the streets).
Stay off the road at night when traveling east along the Ditchway—dangerous, large worms are said to emerge from their burrows after dark.
The Lankshorn Chapel has a secret escape tunnel that once led into the woods, though no one knows if it still exists.
In the central market, we saw a sign reading “Help Wanted: 100 gp per client,” pointing to the Hornstoat’s Rest. It seemed like a good place to begin our adventures, so we headed there.
Before entering, we dipped our weapons in a barrel of water—apparently a Breggle custom.
Inside the Hornstoat’s Rest, many patrons were coughing and covered in boils. We met Margerie Stallowmade, the innkeeper, and asked about the sign. She explained that more and more of her regular customers had been afflicted with a strange illness, and she needed help investigating it.
Not wanting to speak openly, Margerie led us to a back room, where we also met Farnham Ribblemead, an elderly sage specializing in ancient languages and scripts, and Elaine Button, a woman of the Pluritine Church.
Margerie told us that, in addition to the illness, someone had been breaking in and stealing day-old pies. Farnham suspected fey involvement. Elaine reported seeing small cloaked figures at night, each carrying a pie and heading south of Lankshorn.
We agreed to investigate both the sickness and the thefts, suspecting they might be connected.
On our way out, Llerg noticed an ornate porcelain pot on a high shelf that seemed out of place. Marjorie explained that she had received it a few weeks ago as payment for a large tab from a small bat-like creature that could not pay in coin. Notably, the illness began shortly after she acquired the pot.
We wanted to examine the pot with Farnham, but Margerie preferred to wait until the inn closed.
For the rest of the day, we explored town and learned that a local bladesmith, Joremey Whilpston-Puddingfoot, forges “moon-forged” weapons—someone worth visiting in the future.
That night, after closing, we met Margerie and Farnham again to inspect the pot. Farnham identified the owl motif as belonging to the Hooded Men, a cabal of heathen sorcerers. We also learned that barrowbogeys are known to wear pots on their heads.
Margerie rjorie gave us the key to the inn, and we decided to stake out the kitchen. We hid in the pantry with a clear view of the pies. Around midnight, a small creature wearing a pot on its head unlocked the front door—apparently with a copied key—and began stealing pies.
We confronted the barrowbogey. Llerg tried to capture it in a sack, but it was too quick. The creature was not hostile, so we parleyed. It introduced itself as Fiddlethumb and explained that barrowbogeys love pies but do not understand coin or barter. More importantly, the pot belonged to his friend, Grus, who was now “headless” without it. Believing Margerie had stolen the pot, they had cursed the inn, causing the illness.
We explained that Margerie was not at fault. We arranged to meet Fiddlethumb at 11 a.m. the next day at the south edge of town, bringing the pot to return to Grus. In exchange, the curse would be lifted.
We left a note for Margerie to change the locks, then retired to our rooms.
2 Haelhold
Weather: Overcast, muggy
The next morning, Llerg awoke covered in boils. Rodger remained unaffected.
We explained everything to Margerie . Though reluctant to part with the valuable pot—and still feeling she was owed payment—she agreed. She identified the bat-like creature as Rogbert and blamed him for the trouble.
At 11 a.m., we met Fiddlethumb and traveled south through Hex 0710. Along the way, we encountered the remains of a cow surrounded by a dense swarm of insects, with what appeared to be a human hand protruding from the carcass. We avoided the area.
Fiddlethumb led us to a hidden cave with an underground stream. While passing between stone pillars, we triggered a trap—he had deceived us and led us into an ambush. Llerg was struck in the neck by a dart, seriously injuring him.
Fiddlethumb and another barrowbogey attacked, but Llerg threatened to smash the porcelain pot, forcing them to hesitate.
Grus then appeared and offered to ally with us against the others. In exchange, he would take all the pots in the lair, and we could claim the remaining treasure. We agreed.
The fight was difficult—Llerg was nearly killed—but Grus saved him using a strange fruit (a “shub egg”). Together, we killed Fiddlethumb and his companion.
To break the curse, Llerg consumed gruel from Grus’s pot (his “head”), lifting the illness affecting both himself and the inn’s patrons.
Afterward, Grus revealed that he had stolen the pot and the fruit from the Hooded Men, who dwell on the western shores of Lake Longmere in Dwelmfurgh. Since eating the fruit, Llerg now has an unnerving heightened sense of smell, particularly for human flesh and sweat.

Grus claimed all the decorative pots. He also mentioned two unexplored passages: one leading to a cavern with rare mushrooms and fire beetles, and another to an ancient tomb. We chose not to explore further for now but noted them for later.
We returned to Lankshorn without incident. The inn was lively again—patrons laughing and singing, fully recovered. In celebration, we were offered Green Absintheon, a drink tasting of bitter herbs and spring nectar, which induced mild euphoria.
Margerie paid us our reward and offered one week of room and board in a shared room.

Llerg –
